You Can Now Search Ethereum Address Balances on Google

Google is getting into the crypto game. No, they’re not launching a native token. Instead, the company is taking a baby step to cozy up to crypto.

That baby step is making Ethereum addresses searchable. So if you head to Google.com and search for an Ethereum address, you’ll see the balance of that address and chain activity.

The most popular block explorer for the Ethereum blockchain, Etherscan, powers the Ethereum address search results for Google.

Ethereum Addresses Are Public Anyway

Ethereum is the largest cryptocurrency by market value behind Bitcoin. It hosts billions of dollars worth of decentralized finance and nonfungible token transactions, and Ethereum is a public blockchain.

Since Ethereum addresses are public, anyone can explore them to see token balances, transactions to and from addresses, and which decentralized applications were accessed.

No Love For Bitcoin?

The Google search engine does not yet offer searching capability for Bitcoin addresses.

That said, Google is increasingly interested in blockchain technologies, Web3, and cryptocurrencies.

Google To Accept Crypto Payments

In 2023, Google will allow enterprise customers to pay for their Google Cloud Platform (GCP) usage with cryptocurrencies. This payment option is for Web3 companies that prefer to pay their cloud infrastructure bills with crypto.

Google has partnered with Coinbase to process crypto transactions. Payment processing allows Coinbase to diversify its revenue to be less reliant on the income it makes from crypto trading fees.

Coinbase will shift its cloud infrastructure from Amazon to Google as part of the relationship.

Crypto Is Part of Google’s Future

Between the searchable Ethereum blockchain addresses and forthcoming crypto payment options, Google is signaling that rapid adoption of blockchain and cryptocurrency-based solutions are part of the company’s plan for future business growth.
